Embers of Liberty by Trever Bierschbach is about a group of people trying to escape the United States for the Republic of Texas. It’s a different world than the one we know now. However,we’re not far from living like the people in Embers of Liberty.

I would categorize Embers of Liberty as a dystopian novel. Everything in the United States is controlled by the government and the president, who is more of a dictator than a president. In theory, the United States should be a utopia but it’s becoming more dystopian every day. We could say that about the current life in the United States.

John Evermann and a group of friends meet in secret to make a plan to cross the border into the Republic of Texas. They suspect that the government is closing in on their meetings, which are illegal. Evermann is arrested but an officer lets him go. The plan to cross the border has to happen immediately.

I did not know how it was going to end for Evermann and his group. Everything that I suspected turned out to be wrong. So that was a bonus. Who wants to guess everything? It would be so boring to know every move that the characters are going to do.

If you enjoy dystopian novels then you will probably like Embers of Liberty.
