Jane Austen, A to Z: Jane Austen Ruined My Life
While looking for books by or about Jane Austen, I found Jane Austen Ruined My Life by Beth Pattillo. I found the ebook on Libby by Overdrive. If you have a library card, then you can also borrow ebooks from Libby.
Emma has just left her unfaithful husband. Her career is in ruins because her teaching assistant accused Emma of plagiarism. It’s not a good thing for anyone but especially not a literature professor. Also, the teaching assistant was the woman having an affair with Emma’s husband.
So Emma travels to England because she learns that there may be some letters of Jane Austen’s that no one has seen before. She has nothing else to do so she spends the rest of her savings to hunt for the lost Jane Austen letters.
She blames Jane Austen for her expectations of finding Mr. Darcy or Mr. Knightley. If she hadn’t been looking for a hero then maybe her life wouldn’t be in a shambles. I don’t agree that she should blame Jane Austen and eventually Emma realizes it.
It was an enjoyable book. There were some true facts along with fiction. I would have missed half of the references if I hadn’t been reading so much about Jane Austen lately.
