Sleep Deprived Music Review: Mariee Sioux
In June 2019, Mariee Sioux released her third album, Grief in Exile.
The album is haunting and powerful. The impression that I take away is that we can be sad and in control. Eventually, we can put our own depression back on the shelf.
Her voice sounds like Joan Baez. Sioux doesn’t sound exactly like Baez but neither of their soprano voices falter. Mariee Sioux tells a story like Buffy Sainte-Marie. It’s not the same story but it’s a true one. I want to hear all of the stories.
Someday, I would like to visit the Pacific Northwest — Washington, Oregon and Northern California. While on this future road trip, Mariee Sioux’s music will be playing as all of the natural scenery unfolds before us. Until then, Mariee Sioux will be on the nature trail playlist. What would be on your nature trail playlist?
